Today’s Reality

DOD Holds First Homemade Explosives Conference to Defeat IEDs
Excerpt from a report by ABC News’ Kristina Wong, Nov 18, 2011

Since Oct. 7, 2001, IEDs have killed over 3,000 and wounded over 30,000 U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. According to Barbero (JIEDDO Director Lt. Gen. Michael D. Barbero), there are 400 to 500 IED events per month in Iraq, and more than 1,500 events per month in Afghanistan.

However, Barbero said the threat from IEDs was not confined to Iraq or Afghanistan, but is a global threat.

Since 2009, the number of worldwide IED events has doubled, he said. Outside of Iraq and Afghanistan, Colombia has seen the greatest number of IED events, followed by Pakistan, India, the United States and Russia.

"More than 500 IED attacks occur outside of Iraq and Afghanistan on a monthly basis,” he said.

The Problem

… IEDs continue to kill and maim US & Coalition forces as well as civilians throughout the war zone and wherever terrorists attack. The IED is relatively inexpensive to make, easy to deploy and devastating in physical, emotional and psychological impact. Consequently, the IED remains the weapon of choice for terrorists worldwide.

A Unique RedXDefense Solution

RedXDefense’s approach to combating the IED threat combines a proprietary technology for trace detection of explosives with a unique Concept of Operations (ConOp) which enables offensive operations against terrorists and allows the war-fighter to go ‘left of boom’.
